Hello Shareholders,
Reminder: I’m Mike Merrill, the world’s only publicly traded person, and hopefully you are a shareholder (if not you can buy a share right here). This list is about all about the ups and downs of selling shares in myself and having shareholders vote on my life. It’s fun.
tl;dr - live debate happening sunday here. you can vote now, but should watch first.
Battle for the Board
There are two seats for the Board of Directors up for grabs and the original five candidates have been whittled down to three. It started with opening statements and a vote, which eliminated Austin Pearson.
Then the candidates themselves had to meet and eliminate one of their own, ultimately choosing Jefferson Nunn. The remaining candidates issued the following statement:
JOINT STATEMENT FROM THE BOARD CANDIDATES
Led by Mike the four candidates went through several straw polls and a final binding vote. While Jefferson would bring real skills to the nascent board he was ultimately voted out. This decision reflects not only the best attempt of the existing candidates with the information they have at this time, but also reflects the sentiment expressed by the shareholders in the first vote.
The board candidates thank Jefferson for his proactive campaign and wish him well. They also look forward to engaging with all the shareholders in the coming debate.
Now we enter the last phase of the selection process:
Final Candidate Debate
This will be a live streamed event that is heavily influenced by my long running admiration of Survivor, the jealousy I feel of never having been a Jeopardy clue, and a more fun version of the dumpster fire of a modern political debate.
But this event requires, as does all great television, a live audience! The viewers will be able to indicate who they believe is winning or losing in real time as the candidates fight for survival, and it will all end with the final vote on KmikeyM mere moments after the end of the debate.
How To Participate
📧 Any shareholders that have questions for candidates can just reply to this email. I’ll consolidate shareholder feedback and present them to the candidates. These candidates will be representing your interests!
🗳️ During the event you’ll be able to update live polling to indicate who you think is winning. And you can vote starting today and ending 30 minutes after the event for who you want to be granted a seat.
How To Watch and Vote
We will be streaming the debate live via YouTube on the KmikeyM Channel. Make sure to subscribe now so that you can send messages during the livestream!
The voting is currently live for those that have a clear favorite or might not be able to make the event, but please wait to cast your final vote after the debate ends. We’ll be manually closing the vote to determine the next two board members 30 minutes after the end of the show.
You can catch up on the full process here.
Rules for the board are being updated here.
Board members will be listed here.
Coming Up Next
I’ve been thinking a lot about a signature scent and enlisted the help of one of the co-hosts of Nose Candy to help me. Expect a vote soon on the scent of capitalism!
Kathryn and I have been working on the If/Come podcast project. I’m hoping to launch that in Q4 and the season will be 8 to 10 episodes.
🤑 I adopted the Money Mouth face emoji (search for “kmikeym”). Not sure what to do with it now…
Zach and I have been contemplating what a season 2 of Hamburger Business Review might look like. I am determined to up the stakes and make it a little less theoretical and more than just a podcast if we decide to move forward, but that would also be a future vote.
I have been reaching out to some folks as part of early planning for the 2024 Shareholder Summit. No dates or any announcements yet but early chats have been exciting.
And of course we’ll be having board meetings! The newly elected members will help craft strategy and process and any number of big choices that I’ll need the shareholders to help decide.
Profitably Yours,
-K. Mike Merrill
